Russian and two Uzbeks detained in Dubai for the theft of rare Swiss watches

The gang, consisting of a Russian and two citizens of Uzbekistan, was detained in Dubai in connection with the theft of collection watches worth more than $ 100 thousand.

An unemployed Russian citizen and two Uzbek citizens appeared before a Dubai criminal court on charges of assaulting a seller and stealing watches worth 400 thousand dirhams ($ 108.9 thousand).

According to the case file, the victim bought a Swiss watch, which was released in a limited edition of only 88 pieces worldwide, but later decided to put them up for sale on the Dubizzle portal. Two days after the announcement was posted, he received a WhatsApp message from a person interested in the purchase asking him to attach more photos of the product.

“Later he called me, introduced himself and said that he was very interested in watches,” the man testified.

They agreed to meet at the hotel on December 23, but the buyer called and apologized for being out of place, claiming to have been in a car accident. On December 27, the seller again contacted the buyer, who again asked for a sale. Allegedly due to injuries, the buyer could not arrive at the meeting and asked the emirate to come to him in Mirdif, which the latter did.

As soon as the victim entered the apartment, three men, including the “buyer”, attacked him and began to strangle and hit him on the head. As a result, the man fainted, and, waking up, asked the accused to let him go.

“I was released, I ran to my car and sat in a second, after which I called the police, who arrived at the scene,” he said.

Men aged 24, 23, and 29 were arrested and charged with theft and assault.

The Russian denies all charges, while two of his accomplices admitted to the theft, but denied the attack.

The next hearing will be on May 14th.
