Dangerous abdominal injections are reportedly being practiced in the Emirates despite the fact that they were not authorized by the US Food and Drug Administration.
Injections, the cost of which is about 15 thousand dirhams per session (US $ 4.1 thousand), are made directly into the wall of the stomach and reduce its peristalsis. Thanks to them, as promised, the patient feels full and begins to lose weight. The effect lasts for six months.
As Dr. Abdelrahman Nimeri, director of the Institute of Bariatric Surgery at Seha's Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, noted, this procedure is intended for those who are looking for a quick solution to weight loss. According to him, Botox injections into the stomach can lead to serious complications, including perforation of the stomach wall and even death. He explained that before any surgical operations should be examined in hospitals and clinics where professionals work, and not rely on rumors spread on social networks.
