Dubai started to charge tourist tax

The decree introducing a new levy on hotel guests, apartments and other rental properties, also referred to as the “tourist dirham”, entered into force in Dubai. Its size depends on the class of the hotel or apartments and ranges from 7 to 20 UAE dirhams from one room / apartment / villa per day.

The funds received will be used to develop the tourism industry of the emirate. Similar fees exist in many resort cities in the world.
