Diana, you have always exuded confidence, your own style has inspired many women. And who inspired you?
Diana: My mom. She was the woman I wanted to become. Mom always chose clothes for herself, but, most importantly, I was always amazed at how dignified and proud she looked, no matter what she was wearing.
What do you think when you see women in your dresses?
Diana: I would like to see how a woman puts on her first dress with smell and looks at herself in the mirror ... that moment of surprise when she sees how the jersey emphasizes the contours of the figure and narrows the silhouette. I have been watching this process for many years, and it gives me great pleasure.
How do men react to such dresses?
Diane: You know, men always pay attention to a woman in a dress. If she is comfortable in him, then she exudes confidence, and this cannot be ignored!
Many women cherish memorable moments associated with their favorite things. What story do your own dresses hide?
Diana: We began to collect bit by bit the stories of our fans on social networks in connection with the fortieth anniversary of the design of my dress, but in fact I have been hearing interesting cases related to it from relatives and friends all my life. Their stories are also my stories. The story of a woman who was promoted in such a dress, or one who met her future husband in him, is all part of the big adventure of a small dress.
The style of the dress with a smell is actually timeless. On any figure, it looks perfect. What is his secret?
Diana: It always starts with the choice of fabric. The silk jersey from which dresses are sewn is most comfortable for the skin. The quality and texture of this fabric is phenomenal, so it is very pleasant to wear. Moreover, this material does not deform prints, but, on the contrary, creates the illusion of their movement on the body. Of course, the dress is universal, it suits many women, because it can be "tailored" to your style: it’s rather tighter to tie a belt at the highest point of the waist. Many years passed, and the dress with odor evolved. Today there are so many different variations of it! It has become an indispensable part of the wardrobe of a modern woman.
40 years ago, Newsweek called you "the most successful woman since Coco Chanel." What motivated you then and what now?
Diane: I started my business shortly after I got married. I wanted to become financially independent, to be a "person." And I began to sew simple color knitted dresses with a comfortable cut.
It never occurred to me that this would be the starting point of my career as a designer. And four decades later, my goals have not changed. Now I want to be sure that my brand will live after me, for my children and grandchildren.
Tell us about your new book, The Woman I Wanted to Be.
Diane: Now I’m approaching the age when autumn comes in every person’s life, so I look back and analyze my fate. Every woman who can honestly talk about her life inspires others. In this book, I reveal my strengths and weaknesses. I write about my roots, about love, beauty, aging. I also talk about my business, how to live the "American dream" and cope with difficulties.
You are a real woman who has managed to prove to everyone that the main thing is never to give up (Diana survived divorce, bankruptcy and cancer in her time - Note. Ed.). How do you manage to stay so energetic?
Diana: The love of my life and my natural curiosity give me strength. I try to live in the present, not to miss a single important point, to take care of others, to monitor what is happening in the world. This is what keeps me toned.
What is the most important life lesson you learned?
Diana: I realized that the most difficult and most important relationship a person has with himself. And relations with other people will be “healthy” and pleasant, if you are as honest as possible.
