Doctors from the UAE are at the forefront in the fight against diabetes

In the coming decades, the incidence of diabetes in the Middle East will increase, but doctors from the United Arab Emirates are ready to fight the epidemic.

In the next 30 years, the number of people with diabetes in the Middle East will double. Doctors from the UAE today lead the fight against the global epidemic. Such data were made at a conference held by the Imperial College London Diabetes Center (ICLDC) in Abu Dhabi on Saturday, June 22.

It is estimated that one in five emirates today has diabetes, a disease that can cause other serious health problems, including heart disease.

Dr. Emad George, ICLDC endocrinologist and diabetologist, said: “We are seeing a serious increase in the incidence rate. The number of such cases has tripled over the past 20 years. In 2017, there were 425 million. It is predicted that this figure will increase to 630 million by 2045. "

"There is some evidence that the incidence of diabetes in Abu Dhabi has declined," he added, "ongoing public health initiatives have a direct impact on this."
