Russia in Dubai transferred dozens of KamAZ trucks to the UN

The Russian Federation donated dozens of trucks to the regional center of the World Food Program in Dubai.

On May 21, 2019, 97 KamAZ trucks and 30 trailers from the Russian Federation were handed over to the United Nations World Food Program (WFP). The donation will allow the humanitarian organization to increase the logistics resource.

Getting a new transport is another important milestone in the historical and long-term partnership between the Russian Federation and WFP in the field of logistics technologies. The new KamAZ trucks will increase the efficiency of the three regional runway centers, namely in the UAE, Ghana and Uganda.

The transfer of the first batch of a fleet of 37 units took place this morning at the United Nations Humanitarian Response Depot in International Humanitarian City, Jebel Ali, Dubai. The ceremony was attended by senior representatives of EMERCOM of Russia, International Humanitarian City and WFP.

“The Russian Federation has been generously supporting our fleet for the third time since donations in 2011 and 2014. KamAZ trucks and trailers allowed WFP to increase its operational transport resources and significantly increase the effectiveness of the emergency response system,” said Majid Yahya, WFP Director in the UAE and representative in the Persian Gulf region, - “From the moment of their registration in the runway centers, they have transported more than 350 thousand metric tons along the most difficult routes with more than 6.5 million kilometers. Without them, food delivery providing assistance to those in need and supporting the humanitarian community would be far more difficult and costly. "

“On behalf of our beneficiaries and the global humanitarian community, we are very grateful to the Russian Federation and KamAZ for this valuable partnership and generous support,” he added.

“Today’s event is the result of a long-term partnership between the Government of the Russian Federation and the World Food Program,” said Vladimir Solovyov, Director of the Department of International Affairs of EMERCOM of Russia and head of the Russian National Humanitarian Response Corps, “We are very pleased to contribute to the WFP’s rescue mission and changing lives, especially in the most difficult conditions caused by war and natural disasters. "

“Today we are witnessing an important, historic event when Russian equipment is sent to the Middle East and is oriented, among other things, to African countries in order to help people who need this help. It’s nice that these deliveries are presented by one of the leaders of the Russian automobile industry - by KamAZ enterprise, ”said Soloviev.

He also emphasized that during the cooperation, more than 325 thousand tons of food cargo was delivered on Russian trucks, including flour, butter, peas and other products.

“Our joint work contributes to the implementation of various UN programs aimed at protecting vulnerable groups of the population, including women and children. Such work allows us to provide social and economic support to the population in the most difficult regions of our planet, which, we hope, will contribute to achieving 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, ”he added.

Yuri Yuryevich Vidakas, Russia's Chargé d'Affaires in the UAE, said: "We are proud that it is the Russian KamAZ brand that will participate in such an honorable humanitarian mission to deliver goods to those areas where people really need help."

“It’s a great honor for me to take part in this historic event, it’s especially nice that this humanitarian mission is fulfilled by the EMERCOM of Russia. I worked with them in other countries, in more difficult conditions (war conditions), and now I have the honor to work with them in peace time, for the benefit of people who really need them, "said Oleg Olegovich Fomin, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Dubai and the Northern Emirates.

Ramil Khazeyev, a representative of KamAZ, listed the list of equipment that is sent for humanitarian needs and noted that the delivery of vehicles will be carried out by the runway to the region where the vehicles will be operated. It is, in particular, the countries of Central Africa. “Our vehicles are ready for operation in off-road conditions. This is proved by numerous victories at a variety of rally marathons, such as the Dakar Rally, and repeated participation in UN programs,” he said.

Every day, the runway employs an average of 5 thousand commercial trucks. In difficult conditions in which the capabilities of commercial carriers are exhausted, the organization relies on its own fleet of nearly 800 trucks.

In 2011, the runway received 40 KamAZ trucks from the Russian Federation, which were successfully integrated into the runway fleet in Afghanistan and helped to increase its efficiency. This was followed by a historic contribution of another 218 trucks in 2014 that were used by the runways in the Congo, CAR, South Sudan and Ethiopia. In addition, KAMAZ will also provide a three-year training program for runway managers, mechanics, and drivers.
