UAE will host "Day without cars"

Dubai, the emirates of Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah and the city of Al Ain will hold a “Car-Free Day”.

The 9th “Car Free Day” from the Dubai Municipality will be held in Dubai with the participation of two other emirates and Al Ain. The municipalities of Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah and Al Ain decided to join forces in the framework of the initiative.

Hussein Nasser Luta, Director General of Dubai Municipality, said the event will be held on February 4 with the support of various government and non-government departments and private companies.

According to him, efforts to protect the environment are not limited to the emirate of Dubai.

In 2017, the event was attended by 60 thousand cars. This year, the municipality expects more participants.

"Doors are open to all UAE municipalities that want to take part in this initiative, since this is no longer a local event. It has become a role model to protect the environment from pollution that affects us all," said Luta.

"Last year, 2,444 people and about 200 organizations were involved in this popular environmental initiative in the country," Luta added.
