Emirates airline stopped flights to Tunisia

Dubai-based Emirates has suspended flights to Tunisia, allegedly due to reports of suspicious individuals trying to travel to the United Arab Emirates from Tunisia.

On Sunday, December 24, Emirates from Dubai announced the suspension of its flights to Tunisia for an indefinite period shortly after the Tunisian government forbade Emirate carriers to board passengers at their airports.

Earlier, the UAE banned entry into the country for Tunisian women. In this regard, Emirates refused a number of Tunisian citizens to board flights to Dubai.

The action of the Tunisian authorities was a response to the ban. However, the African government confirmed that the UAE authorities had "reliable information" about possible security threats that led to the ban on Tunisian women from entering.

According to Saida Kvash, an official spokeswoman for Tunisia, security services in some countries recently warned that a number of women from Tunisia had returned from Syria and Iraq, where they fought on the side of the ISIS group banned in Russia.

“These women pose a security risk,” she added, not confirming whether this is the reason for the UAE’s decision.
