UAE going to become leaders in gender equality

The United Arab Emirates has unveiled a plan that will allow the country to become a leader in gender equality.

This week, the UAE presented an action plan that will allow the country to become one of the world's leading nations in terms of gender balance by 2021.

The initiative affects both the private and public sectors, the state-owned news agency WAM said.

Based on international best practices and recommendations of the member countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the leadership will support the UAE in creating an enabling environment for both men and women.

Progress on gender balance will be measured using a range of national indicators, including the Social Cohesion Index and the Happiness Index. The focus is on women in leadership positions, women in specialized and technical fields and job creation that are consistent with gender balance policies. Three levels will be used to measure progress: bronze, silver and gold.
