Dior Grand Ball

From May 13 to September 26, 2010 in France for the first time a new exhibition "The Great Ball of Dior" will be organized and held, which will present the largest collection of 50 ball gowns provided by the Christian Dior Museum, located in Greenville. The purpose of this grand exhibition is to tell and demonstrate to the public the “world” and the creations of the famous French Fashion House Christian Dior - haute couture clothes, accessories and perfumes, as well as paintings, photographs, archival films and literary works. All this will be presented in a unique context with the history of balls of the early 18th century and to this day.

The exhibition "Big Ball Dior" is a tribute to the creator of the famous fashion house, his talent, sophisticated taste, love for luxurious and expensive costumes, expressed in large balls of the post-war period. The French couturier is an integral part of countless unforgettable events, including the "Ball of Kings and Queens of 1949", which he attended, dressed in the "King of the Beasts"; 1956 Artists Ball, where he was dressed in a dandy style; "Masquerade Ball", hosted by the eccentric millionaire Charles de Bestegi in the palace of the Palazzo Labia in Venice in 1951. Some of the ball gowns and formal dresses created by Dior for this mythical ball, often called the "party of the century", will be transferred to the Museum of Decorative Arts of Paris (Musee des Arts Decoratifs) and the Museum of the City of Paris (Musee Galliera).

The first part of the exhibition is devoted to the sources of inspiration that nourished the imagination of Christian Dior - his ball-rich youth at the Granville Casino, and his acquaintance with opera and Russian ballet in Paris. The second part of the exhibition covers the period from 1980 to the present day, talking about the revival of big balls, including Debutante Ball, Bal des Artistes, Ball in Honor of the Marquise Cassati and new balls held by the Dior Fashion House over the past few decades.
